Meet Becky, Team Leader of St George's Court

Becky has  worked in care since she was 17 years old. For  the last eight years she cared for the elderly as an apprentice for 18 months then went on to support adults with learning disabilities for five years.  Although she thoroughly enjoyed working with adults with learning disabilities, she wanted a change. She then became a support practitioner and supported adults with mental health diagnosis until joining Care is Central.  Find out more below.

What made you become a Carer?

I was giving a lot of support and help from different health care professionals from a very young age. I spent time in hospital as a child and due to the amazing support, I was given, I was inspired to give back to the world by supporting and helping others. Seeing people smile is very rewarding and assures me I have made a positive impact on their life.

What do you think is the biggest challenge of working in care?

I feel the biggest challenge in care is supporting family members as well as the client through difficult and tough times. But once the tough times are over, it makes it worth doing, the good always outweighs the bad.

What do you enjoy the most about your job in care?

Supporting others to achieve their goals, ambitions, and dreams. Making a difference to people lives, supporting others to live their best life and knowing I have made a different to someone’s life is very rewarding. I feel this helps builds healthy and positive relationships.

What attracted you to work for Care is Central?

I had not work in independent living before and wanted to try something new. I had heard very positive things about Care is Central, after looking into their values, I felt they were like my own, which assured me I would be happy joining the team.

What are you looking forward to most in your role?

Learning new things, working with and getting to know the team and residents.
