Ground-breaking Ceremony for Care Village in Flitwick
New care development build starts
Our Managing Director Geraint Williams was excited to attend the ground-breaking ceremony for the new care home and care village at Steppingly Road in Flitwick.
Steppingly Road is the first senior living village to be built by the Central Bedfordshire Council and will comprise 88 independent living apartments; a 72-bed care home and 8-bed short-stay units. The buildings have been designed to encourage social inclusion and support independent living with communal spaces, lounges, restaurant/bar, hobby spaces and gardens. Care is Central will be providing care support to residents when it opens in 2024.
Several residents from Ferndale Care Home, who will move into the new development, were also on-site to witness the ceremony including Mr. Ernie Thorne, a former construction worker, who ably assisted with the ground-breaking.
Also in attendance was Cllr. Gordon Perham, Central Bedfordshire Council’s Chairman, who was joined by Cllr. Eugene Ghent, Executive Member Housing & Assets and Cllr. Carole Hegley, Executive Member of Adult Social Care, to ceremonially break the ground to celebrate the start of construction work.
Geraint Williams MD, said:
“The planned development allows older people to maintain an independent lifestyle by providing a ‘home-for-life’ that integrates varied levels of care and support if and when needed. We are delighted to be care providers for this site, offering expert care support to residents as and when they need it to allow them to stay happy and safe in their own homes.”
The development will take approximately two years to build and looks to open sometime in 2024. Care is Central will first open the doors to Marigold Care Home in Leighton Buzzard in Spring next year.
