Meet Ben, Team Leader for Chamomile Gardens

How long have you worked in Care/what roles have you had previously?

I have been in care most of my life, my brother has profound learning disabilities and I finished college and went straight in to supporting him. I then progressed to working more specifically in elderly care with a prominent role in Dementia Care.

What made you want a career in the care sector?

I have always been care orientated, whether it’s with my own family or with individuals I work with in a professional sense. I thrive on helping people and being part of a team that provide a high level of care and support to both the client and their families.

What do you think is the biggest challenge of working in care?

The biggest challenge to me is making sure we constantly adapt to the changing needs of the clients and making sure we are providing the most effective level of care for them. These needs can change regularly so it’s important to stay up to date with the client’s needs and ensure we are doing all we can for to support them.

What do you enjoy the most about your job in care?

I most enjoy getting to know the clients and their families. I love learning people’s history and what’s important to them as individuals. I feel it’s important to know this side of people to be able to help support and enrich their future time with us.

What attracted you to work for Care is Central?

When researching Care is Central, I really loved their values and what they stand for. Putting the clients at the forefront at the service that’s provided as well empowering the care team to provide the best care possible. This really connected with me, and I felt excited with the opportunity of being able to join the team.

What are you looking forward to most in your role?

I’m most looking forward to getting to know the team and learning how best I can support both them and the clients. I hope to bring a positive energy in to the role as well as a good attention to detail and proactive help and reassurance where needed.

What made you become a Carer?

I was giving a lot of support and help from different health care professionals from a very young age. I spent time in hospital as a child and due to the amazing support, I was given, I was inspired to give back to the world by supporting and helping others. Seeing people smile is very rewarding and assures me I have made a positive impact on their life.

What do you think is the biggest challenge of working in care?

I feel the biggest challenge in care is supporting family members as well as the client through difficult and tough times. But once the tough times are over, it makes it worth doing, the good always outweighs the bad.

What do you enjoy the most about your job in care?

Supporting others to achieve their goals, ambitions, and dreams. Making a difference to people lives, supporting others to live their best life and knowing I have made a different to someone’s life is very rewarding. I feel this helps builds healthy and positive relationships.

What attracted you to work for Care is Central?

I had not work in independent living before and wanted to try something new. I had heard very positive things about Care is Central, after looking into their values, I felt they were like my own, which assured me I would be happy joining the team.
